Hi guys. Need some help. Im currently brewing 35-40 liter batches with an electric urn and fermenting in plastic buckets. But looking to upgrade to closer to 150liter. Any suggestions. What would be most affordable and is there guys that sell second hand.

Cheers Duncan

Hi Dunc

A 150L kettle is quite large. I suggest you keep an eye on the normal online trading sites (JunkMail, Gumtree, OLX) for large stainless steel food pots, or stainless steel holding tanks.

I recently picked up a 200L stainless steel (non magnetic food grade) holding tank that was an oil heater for hi temp steam production at some stage, for R800.

It will need some welding to close up certain holes I don't want, and to add certain extras that I do want, but my point is that it's a good basis if you are on a tight budget.

Otherwise, there is a guy in Rooihuiskraal called Jonothan that imports stainless cooking pots from China and adds the items a brewer needs (temp probes, taps, sightglasses, etc). I can provide his cell number if you want to contact him?
