  • Moving hops

Brightspark here was not paying attention, so my hops grew into my electric fence.

Good news is they started flowering, bad news is that they are now also approaching neighbor's electric fence.

So I decided to make a triangular frame, 4 meters high, for the hops.

I got the poles and wrapped a bit of rope around it for extra grip.

Next I had to detangle hops. This is almost like stopping 2 fighting animals! You are trying to help but end up with the most scars!

Garden gloves is a must! Hops is like fibre glass! It itches to high heaven.

It took me about an hour to relocate them to their new poles.

Next year I will train them up the poles from the start.

Trying to train my grapes. Seems i will not have a harvest this year. Really wanted to make some wine. It shot 4 meters high into the neighbor's one tree. It also went into my garage. Been pruning like a mad man through the season. Only to find no grapes are forming.

Wonder how hops will fair on aggressive trimming. My understanding was that if you remove excess plant, the plant have more resources for fruit, or flowers in your case.
Seems it is not 100% true.
