  • Brewing area

I'm remodeling my patio that doubles as my brewing area. And I now have a little bit of flexibility to make some good changes to improve my brew day. What would be the ideal things to have in a brewing room? I'm not talking about brewing equipment, but in terms of plugs, taps, drain.

    So I'm thinking of installing:
-Distribution box with at least a 25A plug to accommodate a 5500W element
-Sink with flexible kitchen faucet thingy (http://www.cobra.co.za/Gallery/FX-100.jpg)
-Additional taps to fill kettle easily and connect straight to chiller
-Storage space for kettle, chiller and other brew day equipment
    -???

I'm still planning on fermenting in the garage, but might move the kegerator to the patio.
    Primary: APA
Bottled: Quad, tripel, K@K red ale
Keg 1: Weiss. 2: Weiss. Keg 3: Air. Keg 4: Air

The water pressure is quite strong on the patio so I can just imagine this thing blasting any dirty kettle or fermenter

I'd say a 40A feed from the main DB and then a 25A and maybe a 15A breaker for extra plugs for pumps, Karchers, etc. Multiple plug points colour coded for amperage.

-Sink with flexible kitchen faucet thingy (http://www.cobra.co.za/Gallery/FX-100.jpg)

        Double sink: wash and rinse.

-Additional taps to fill kettle easily and connect straight to chiller

        Yes.

-Storage space for kettle, chiller and other brew day equipment

        I use modular meccano-type shelves.

Put some thought into boil-overs and spills........a sloped floor to a main drain-hole? My garage has a flat floor with no run-off, so if I stuff up, it's a mess, everything just lies there.

A proper washable floor is essential. A spill goes nasty very quickly

Yes 40A with from the main DB to the patio and then 25A from there
Not sure of the double sink though, the patio will be primarily for entertaining not brewing so it might not be aesthetic to have 2 sinks
The whole patio needs to be sloped away from the brewing area as it will still be open to the elements

You have some pics of those shelves?

Good call. What's a good cover I can put over the cement that is relatively cheap and looks OK?

                A roof is good.

A roof with a hook for a pulley would be better
