Grain replacement for LME Golden Light (Briess) (4.0 SRM)

  • Grain replacement for LME Golden Light (Briess) (4.0 SRM)

    I plan on brewing the Maris Otter Epic Special Bitter from the Beersmith library.

    It call for the following ingredients:
    4 lbs Pale Malt, Maris Otter (3.0 SRM) Grain 1
    4.0 oz Caramel Malt - 60L (Briess) (60.0 SRM) Grain 2
    4.0 oz Carapils (Briess) (1.5 SRM) Grain 3
    2.0 oz Biscuit Malt (23.0 SRM) Grain 4
    2.0 oz Melanoiden Malt (20.0 SRM) Grain 5
    3 lbs 4.8 oz LME Golden Light (Briess) (4.0 SRM) Grain 6
    2.0 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.0%] - Boil 60 min Hops 7
    1.0 oz Goldings, East Kent [5.0%] - Boil 5 min Hops 8
    1 pkgs SafAle English Ale (DCL/Fermentis #S-04) Yeast 9

    What grains can I use to substitute the LME Golden Light (Briess) (4.0 SRM) to make this an all grain brew?

    I would just use more pale malt ?

      based on "Brewing Classic Styles" by Jamil Zainasheff and John Palmer, (page 120, ESB) it seems the rule of thumb is to take the LME weight and multiply by 1.3 to 1.5 to get the grain weight for each extract. Then fine tune using Beersmith and an all grain setting. As your first all grain batch, maybe set mash efficiency to 60 or 65%.

        This is not my first AG beer. Ust always used a recipe with grain only ingredients [emoji16]

          Like I said, just replace with some extra (2Kg) Maris otter or other light base malt

            Then you should know your system's efficiency with AG by now.
