  • Not gonna brew for a while...

Power tripped. Switched it on then went to garage to get chlorine for pool. Fermenting fridge temp control pid relay was oscillating at 50hz, smoke escapes, and garage smelled like burnt electronics. I think i know why, but will reserve comment for now. If any one has spare for like 2 or 300 bucks, i would love to know. Until then. Beer making has been suspended till end march

Brew a saison, Those yeast strains are wild.

Was it the controller or the fridge? I can imagine a compressor oscillating at 50hz to be quite destructive

The controller. It still displayed the temp, but the relay was oscillating. Hope the fridge made it. The only thing inside is the home made wine i'm trying to save.
And i do not not have allgrain equipment yet. So only thing i can do is cans for now. I will try and source an industrial urn end of march, along with a new pid.

You can BIAB with a pot and some curtain material.

Controller death was probably voltage fluctuations from the grid, we get that often on the farm where the 3-phase goes between 1 and 3 phases and 100vAC to 380vAC.

Brewmart has them for about that price.

From Riaan, a very long time ago. We got shattered at his stand at a Solstice Fest. I miss him and his beer.

Yeah once the smoke is out the chance of it working again is not too great

Ok so i've got an stc 200. The one that usually ships with the grainfather
Problem is it is wired for heat. Ie, it switches on when current temp is below the set temp. Once it goes over, then it switches off.
So i opened it, and it has 3 pins. Pin 2 comes from the plug, and current out is on pin 1.
Is it safe to assume i can move pin 1's wire to pin 3?
I suspect it might work the same as stc1000?

Looks the same as stc200, this one is just clearer
So from the diagram, it seems pin 3 is connected, until it enters working state. Is this assumption correct?

I bought one from Brewcraft too, somewhere there is a setting where you press 2 buttons and it flips from heat to cool, can't remember which. Have a look on mangrove jacks site, I recall seeing a manual there for the controller.
