The winners will be announced today at the CT FoB.

      Good Luck!

Once the announcement is made I will post on FB and I will send out an email. As I have to send out the judging papers for North Prelim one-by-one I will send those out during the weekend.

Their absence reaffirms my position that IPA is overrated and very few people make an excellent one
Give a man a beer, waste an hour. Teach a man to brew, and waste a lifetime!

Maybe the local brewers are to scared to use 400g of hops in a 20l batch ... because that is what it takes to make a monster IPA

                  Hi Cater For Me

No, I have no idea. Please ask Rob or Troye from the SouthYeasters for details.

                  Cheers

The APAs and IPAs counted for almost 20% of the competition. But unfortunately it seems that many people want to brew a hoppy beer, but struggle with harshness, balance and getting the correct flavours and aromas.

Hopefully they will learn from their results and the comments provided.

The technical term is Imperial/Double IPA.

I have brewed one, but it is still conditioning. Friday I can taste my beer, but I guess that it will take a month for the bitterness to round and the beer to be become smoother. I have never brewed anything with so much hops, so this is a massive curve for me.

I found that you must drink a DIPA fresh. (That is why I questioned the dates of the competition) I made a APA recently and the taste and aroma changed from week to week.

I like my DIPA best 2-3 weeks after bottling. But that is just me.

Must be me too then. I made a heavily-hopped SMASH a few weeks ago and also found that the taste has changed between opening the first couple of bottles and now. The lingering bitterness is still there, but the aroma has smoothed somewhat.

Lingering bitterness is good and required, but the bitterness should not be harsh. Anyone can add a ton of hops to a beer, but a good brewer will know how to balance everything out.
