  • List of online LHBS

Would it be ok to start a list of all the SA homebrew shops websites? Don't want to post a list and get banned for it, just think it might be a good resource to have for all of us.
There once was a man from Nantucket.
Who brewed his beer in a bucket.
He put the wort into there,
to cut down on the air.
Then drank it all up like a muppet.

Sure, go nuts. There are so many though, I dunno. Let me see, off the top of my head:

    BevPlus: https://www.bevplus.com/
    Brewmart: https://www.brewmart.co.za/
    BrewCraft: https://brewcraft.co.za/
    BeerGuevara: http://beerguevara.com/
    BeerLab: https://www.beerlab.co.za/
    BeerBros: http://beerbros.co.za/
National Food Products, AKA The Homebrew Shop: https://thehomebrewshop.co.za/
    The Beer Keg: https://www.thebeerkeg.co.za/
    Helderbrew Supplies: http://helderbrewsupplies.co.za/
    Pintsized Brewing: https://pintsizedbrewing.co.za/
    Brew For Africa: https://brewforafrica.co.za/
    Brew Keg Tap: https://www.brewkegtap.co.za/?

I'm sure I'm missing plenty of them as well, so perhaps the next person should just copy this list into their post and add to it, so the last post will contain a comprehensive list of all shops. I'll then ask @SimonB later on to put them all in the first post, and update them from time to time?

Which is why I figured I'll keep an eye on this one. Perhaps get Simon to sticky it?

I did do a search before I put my list together. Found nothing though. I think it might be a good idea to sticky a list somewhere as its info that pretty much everyone could use. I found 2 I didnt know about in Toxxyc's list.

Thanks for this, great help to a newbie.
Now let's hope all these guys are all systems go on Monday as soon as level 3 hits so that I can start to research equipment and pricing.

If you see how I drink, you'll understand my username.
I don't drink water, unless it's been through a brewery first.

@FriedPiggy - Hope you don't mind, I just cut and paste your list onto SouthYeasters website - I'm sure they will be happy to maintain it.

Previously the SY website had a link to this post but it seems to no longer exist. This was the last list I saw on this site.

                    @Camsaway go for it.

The idea was to make it easy to support our local shops that sell the goodies we need. I have also noticed that there is a difference in yeasts, hops, malts, etc that each shop sells. Took me a while to find Willamette hops for example.

Might be a good time to save these sites also >

                      https://www.txbrewing.com/hop-substitution-chart.html
Gives you substitutions if you cant find a specific hop

There's plenty sites like that and even software like Beersmith will tell you what alternatives you could use

Unfortunately this one will always change. Each supplier gets from some of the big suppliers like Barth-Haas or Yakima Chief - but they never bring in the full range. I agree with the substitution sites that @JIGSAW mentions, but maybe if you are looking for a specific hop, post on the forum here and ask. Personally I stick with a couple of my locals unless I'm after something real specific (for example Brewcraft tend to carry the NZ/Aus hops that others don't).

I know you are asking about lhbs, but other equipment I use such as a pH meter and even my temperature controller I bought at hydroponic websites. Sorry if I am deviating maybe from the initial intention of the thread. But here are the sites I used:https://gthydro.co.za/https://hydroponic.co.za/

I also find if you shop around you find things from different sectors to be priced better too. Take the STC 1000 as example, some hydro shops are selling them for 250 ish, while some brew shops are selling them for close to 600.

So definitely worth having a look around before you pull the trigger imo.

Anyone know where I'll be able to find stock of the Mangrove Jack's starter brewery kit or something very similar? It seams to be a very well balanced kit for getting started.
