  • Group/Open Brew Day

I have my first open brew day tomorrow at my place. I invited neighbourhood people to join if they want to see how beer is made.

Does anyone have any tips for these days? What should I do/not do?

I will limit my beer intake to ensure that I am capable to finish both beers while sober, but that is so far the only thing that I can think of that I MUST do.

And if anyone in Jhb want to join, you are more than welcome.

I will have an American IPA and a Irish Red Ale on tap.

I think be passionate but don't geek out to the point that you scare people. Think that is the biggest mistake we make.
        Have fun.

          Lessons learnt:
          1. Do more prep work. Make sure everything is measured and processed before hand.
          2. Do not drink too much. Luckily I was well behaved the whole day.
          3. Have some snacks available, and/or ask the visitors to bring something.
          4. Wear shoes. My soles are still sore!
          5. Maybe have a few books lying around so that people can browse.
          6. Do easy recipes.
          7. Have a timer that goes off every 10 minutes to remind you that you probably need to pay attention to something (like the HLT Temp). Thanks 8eermat for the idea.
          8. Relax, don't worry, have a homebrew.
          9. Try to have a few different homebrews available for people to taste.
